Final Art Class Refelction

This year in art class has been a long and pretty much successful journey. I can slightly remember the beginning of the year where everyone was so uncomfortable in a new enviroment and was just waiting to see what this new experience had in store for them. For me, I was pretty nervous for art because I never really thought of myself as a great artist...I pretty much just thought that my work was average and not anything special. I think that by the end of the year, this class has taught me that there are many different types of art that each person can do it that is what makes them unique artistically. Some of my favorite projects were definitely the one where you spilled the paint on the paper, and you had to create art with what you made by mistake. This really taught me to go with the flow and learn how to create something fun and cool with something that wasn't on purpose. This I feel is a really important aspect to have in art because you can not always be a perfectionist with your art work because many things will probably go wrong. Another project that taught me a lesson that I will remember is the many different types of self portraits we did. I think that the extreme differences between many of the self portraits really caused you to think about how you are in so many different ways. For me the many self portraits like my portrait of a theater and my sculpture the ferris wheel and hermit crab really show myself in two different ways. Even though, throughout most of the year I struggled with staying with a project...which that also taught me to only chew off what I can chew..hahahahaha...but anyways, I think that Art Principles was a great start to my art career at BCDS and even though I was a sophomore in a freshman class, I think I would chose this class for the many lessons learned, the great teacher :), and the sometimes crazy but ALWAYS fun class!!!!!
Thanks a lot Mrs. Roberts,

Clay Sculpture

My clay sculpture is a hermit crab with a Ferris wheel in the background. I chose to do this because a hermit crab describes me because the hermit crab can come out of the shell or decide to hide in it. Also, I decided to make a ferris wheel because a amusement park is so much fun!!!! and i feel i am soo much fun. My project isnt yet finished because the hermit crab has not been fired yet.

Printing Making Project

For this printmaking project, i decided to make a Christmas scene. I decided to make a colorful scene with a Christmas tree with many ornaments, and presents and other fun things such as the background. This project was really hard and was challenging but i finished.

I See the Light Drawing

My goal for this project was to first draw a scene from my camp which is called the final campfire. I thought that a drawing of a whole camp fire with people and candles would be a little overwhelming for my final project. So instead, I decided to draw a zoomed in picture of a candle. I used all of the types of pencil and also decided to do shading with my fingers and with a paper towel...that really helped achieve the look i was looking for.

Thinking about the use of light in art.

When I think of light in art, what instantly comes to my mind is how the artist wants to emphasis something important. For example is there is a landscape that is of a field completely barren except for one flower in the middle, the artist would chose to shine the light on the single flower to emphasize the importance in the picture. When I think of music, sunshine can refer to happy things or something that is going to help you get to a better place. Also, when people think of light it can symbolize Heaven or God. Usually when people say don't go to the light, it means don't slip away and go to heaven. Also if you go into any Catholic church and look on the ceiling there are portraits of god and other heavenly things with light always shining behind them. Light can also make the piece of art very strong because people are drawn to light!

I am me, myself, and I.

I think that my art project was not to the best of my abilities...i feel that because i basically gave up on the project it didn't really reflect me as much as i wanted to. I just think that since i spent to much time on little details i didn't get to the point where i can show myself.

Artist-in-Residence: alexander DeMaria

i like this piece because it is really cool how he can cut up paper and arrange it into a beautiful piece of art. i am really not sure what is going on in the picture but i think it is people going to attack each other and then they merge together. i think that the contrast between the off white and the gray causes you to look closer to the work. i think that this incorporates into his collection of work, because it is in the color scheme...i also really enjoy it because the way that he cuts the work you can tell that it takes a lot of time and there is so much detail.

how long does it usually take for him to make this type of art?
